What to bring on a ski trip: baby holiday packing list

I hate packing at the best of times, let alone when trying to figure out what to bring on a ski trip with a baby or a toddler. There is SO much to remember and often so little time to concentrate on what to pack for conditions that your little one may never have experience before, that it can be quite overwhelming. Not to mention the fact that with young kids there is always – no matter how ruthless you are – SO MUCH STUFF!

To make life easier for other sleep-deprived, time-precious parents out there, here is my comprehensive Baby Ski Holiday Packing List for a ski holiday away with your baby or toddler. Our baby/toddler was 12 months old when I wrote this list.

What to pack for baby ski trip – FOR YOU: hand luggage

  • Tickets and passports
  • Clear plastic case (pre-packed with Calpol – the sachets are quite good for the plane – baby milk, Ella’s pouches (or the cheaper Aldi Mamia version under 250ml for the plane). In some airports you can do an ‘Airport Click and Collect‘ which allows you to order milk and other baby supplies to the Boots located after security at your chosen airport to save you having to faff around with it all at the security screening).
  • Camera and charger
  • Phone and charger

*If you’re after the perfect Easyjet hand luggage bag, check out this one from The Travel Hack blogger, Monica Stott. The rucksack fits the Ryanair hand luggage dimensions, which is brilliant for travelling and comes with lots of pockets, but isn’t always in stock so keep a beady eye on this Amazon page.

Main suitcase list for ski trip:

Top tip, invest in some Pro packing Cubes before you head off on your travels. They are an extremely satisfying way of separating clothes by member of the family – or as you see fit (knickers in one, socks in another).

They compress your clothes so you can fit more stuff in and find stuff easily! As a handy little packing bonus, on the return leg of the journey, you can use them as laundry bags and keep all the stinky stuff separate.

  • Underwear
  • Jumpers
  • Smart dress (if needed for a special occasion – we had a 60th birthday)
  • T-Shirts
  • Thermal layers – top and bottom (the ones from Sweaty Betty are so toasty!)
  • Socks (normal & ski socks)
  • Cosy pyjamas
  • Ski mittens and glove liners
  • Normal gloves for when you’re not on the slopes
  • Hand warmers
  • Bobble hat
  • Ski/snowboard trousers
  • Ski/snowboard jacket
  • Snuggly snow boots (I swear by Merrell or Sorel boots)
  • Ski poles/skis/snowboard/ski boots/snowboard boots (unless you are renting equipment out there)
  • Ski goggles
  • Ski helmet
  • Jeans

What to pack for a ski trip: washbag

  • Shampoo
  • Shower gel
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush
  • Face wipes
  • Deodorant
  • Painkillers
  • Make Up
  • Contact lenses and glasses

Checklist for taking a baby skiing

  • Nappies
  • Bibs
  • Baby-wipes
  • Bottles
  • Dummy (if used)
  • Food/Milk/Snacks – if baby is on cows milk, take some ready in a bottle with a cap to stop it spilling – Easyjet have nothing more than those tiny milk sachet pods onboard. If you’re on formula then take pre-measured powder.
  • Baby cutlery, plates/bowls & tupperware
  • Medicine – Snuffle Babe, Calpol, baby Ibuprofen, Calpol diffuser & refills, teething sachets, Bonjela (you can see we’ve had a lot of holidays with ill kids!)
  • Baby Suncream 50+
  • Babygros
  • All-in-one snow suit
  • Tights (for a girl)
  • Long-sleeved vests x 10
  • Swimming costume & swim nappies
  • T-shirts
  • Cardigans
  • Leggings
  • Trousers
  • Jumpers
  • Shoes
  • Socks
  • Hats
  • Muslins x 2
  • Baby travel Gro Bags (at least 2)
  • Baby sunglasses – useful for skiing with babies if taking them up the mountain as it is BRIGHT. Get the Baby Banz wrap-around kind so they little ones can’t pull them off easily.
  • Baby Snow boots (Jojo Maman Bebe have small sizes if your bubba is walking/cruising)
  • Buggy – the Ergobaby Metro+ buggy (which we own and love) folds up easily and can be taken onto a plane as hand luggage.
  • Baby sling (I think the Ergobaby 360 is the best sling to travel with here, or if you have a newborn, the Ergobaby Embrace Baby Carrier is my favourite.
  • Microwave steam sterilising bags for baby bottles etc (if necessary, can be used up to 5 times each)
  • Car seat (although note that your baby can sit on your lap for a bus transfer and it’s worth seeing if a pre-booked taxi can bring their own for a short journey). Or for kids aged between 4-12 years old, this Trunki BoostApak is a kid’s rucksack that transforms into a safety-regulated car seat.

Baby holiday packing list: entertainment

  • A ready-made KeepEmQuiet®️ Toddler activity pack (these packs are crammed full of exciting surprises for children to discover to keep them entertained while travelling)
  • Books, stickers, magazines, pens (the magic Crayola ones only colour on the book are great)
  • Cuddly toys
  • Comforter
  • A collection of small, easily portable toys
  • iPad loaded with games, movies and CBeebies

Finally, make sure you check your luggage weight allowance and weigh bags beforehand so you’re not caught out with a hefty ‘oversized baggage’ fine at the airport.
