Review – Lovely country barn for group to rent near Bath

It is the view that strikes first, the rolling green hills of Wiltshire cascading down towards the city of Bath, before the main lodging area, Grove Barn and Lodge – sitting smugly in prime position – commandeers your attention. One end of this spectacular family-friendly self-catering barn has been cleverly designed with floor to ceiling glass in order to scoop up the best of this heavenly Cotswolds countryside tumbling away before it. If you’re after a special place to stay to mark an occasion, this country barn for a group to rent near Bath is perfect, family-friendly accommodation.

Inside is impressive too. A mezzanine level swoops above the main living area – comfy, light and perfect for relaxing, a wood-burner completes the space. Underfloor heating warms solid oak and stone floors, en-suite bedrooms come with sumptuous linen – everything is high spec, comfortable and highly convenient, particularly for families and large groups. Books, DVDs (for both adults and children) and a wooden train set that keeps grandpas and little ones entertained for hours also come with the barn. High chairs and cots are available on request. Steps down to the lounge and up to the mezzanine draw toddlers like a moth to a flame, so a travel stair-gate is advisable.

A second, smaller family-friendly self-catering bolthole next door is equally well-equipped. Our party hired both and gathered in the larger barn during the day and evening, to eat, drink and be merry.

There are thoughtful extras too, which in my book, always turns a lovely stay into an exceptional one – in this case, delicious batches of divine home-made chocolate brownies awaited us and the owners had also popped some milk in the fridge for that first necessary cuppa (unless you’re starting with gin of course – which again, in my book…).

The surrounding area has lots of public footpaths to explore, (perfect if you’re a dog-owner as they’re welcome here too), Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Longleat, Bristol and Bath are within easy driving distance. A child-friendly country pub down the road, The Quarryman’s Arms and a play area in Box are perfect if you don’t want to venture far afield.

A special place in stunning surroundings, served best with great company.

Stunning views! This does sound like a brilliant place for a family gathering. I do like the chocolate brownie welcome, if only that could be a standard everywhere! Thanks for linking up with #FamilyFriendlyStays
